The North Central Nebraska RC&D met on Wednesday in Bassett for a regular monthly meeting. A few weeks ago, they announced that communities were invited to submit a nomination for a new bench for Veterans Parks or areas honoring veterans. During Wednesdays meeting, the Veterans Memorial Area at the Cherry County Justice Center in Valentine was selected to received the bench made of recycled tires. During the Sandhills Ranch Expo in Bassett, the North Central Nebraska RC&D hosted a battery recycling collection as part of Nebraska’s efforts to expand safe battery recycling across the state. Residents were able to bring in unwanted household batteries, rechargeable power tool batteries, and cell phones to have them handled through the proper recycling process. The response showed that people are ready for an easier way to deal with batteries that have reached the end of their useful..
