Raleigh County, WV (WOAY)- The city of Beckley was the stage for Thursday’s soccer showdown! The Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles took on the Shady Spring Tigers, both girls soccer teams are looking to shake off slow starts to the season! Find out who comes out on top here!

The Southern West Virginia event is set for Sunday, September 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium in Beckley. Representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval Academies will be on hand, along with information about ROTC scholarships.  #RaleighCounty #WOAY

Deputy Chief David Allard was recognized today for his 24 years of service at the Beckley Police Department.

The event will feature live music, guest speakers, resource tables, free food, and prize giveaways. Organizers are also creating a memory wall for loved ones. Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo to honor someone special. #RaleighCounty #WOAY

The Beckley Police Department has a new deputy chief.

According to a press release, first responders were called in to assist Justice Bill Wooton, a Beckley native, during oral arguments this morning.

I had to ask what brought Added Color, a band based in New York that originated in Brazil, to the Mountain State.

The half marathon begins at 8:00 a.m., with the 5k starting at 8:30 a.m. The half marathon course takes runners along the rail trail and through uptown Beckley, while the 5k offers an out-and-back course for runners and walkers of all levels. Kids ages 12 and under can run the 5k for free. Participants who sign up by Sunday, September 6 will receive a commemorative T-shirt. #RaleighCounty #WOAY

Tomorrow, we'll turn the temperature dial up a little bit more, as some parts of the region see the thermometer soar into the 90s. I think the city leaders in Bluefield can keep the lemon squeezers in storage, but it's likely that both Beckley and Lewisburg will get to 90 degrees tomorrow.

The Beckley native was elected to the bench in May and was initially sworn in during a private ceremony in June, allowing him to start work right away.
