A judge declared a mistrial Tuesday evening in the criminal trial of Johnson County Sheriff Adam King after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The jury had been deliberating since Monday afternoon. Earlier Tuesday, the judge issued an Allen charge, a supplemental instruction encouraging jurors to continue deliberating in an effort to reach a unanimous decision. Despite those additional deliberations, the jury remained deadlocked. King was charged with two counts

Prosecutors previously claimed King had had an affair with a woman in or about 1999.

If convicted, Johnson County Sheriff Adam King faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to 10 years in prison, along with possible fines.
