Over the weekend, 1,077 hunters visited check stations at Big Timber, Columbus, Lavina and Billings, which was close to last year’s 1,087 hunters.

For decades, there’s been cause for community members and travelers to pause at a pull-off 20 miles north of Big Timber, just off US Highway 191, near the unincorporated ranching community of Melville.
