Tuesday in cross-country the Waverly-Shell Rock boys finished 3rd behind Nevada and Gilbert in ascending order at Webster City. Matthew Hommowun was the top Go-Hawk in 7th place. The Go-Hawk girls ran at the Newman Invitational and Kate Nelson placed 5th while Allison Kay was 8th.

Thursday night on Y99.3 in a triangular Tripoli and Sumner-Fredericksburg both swept Crestwood and then Sumner-Fredericksburg also swept Tripoli. Thursday night on KWAY Country in a volleyball triangular both Denver and Waverly-Shell Rock swept New Hampton and then Denver edged Waverly-Shell Rock in 3 sets 15-25, 25-21 and 16-14.

A railcar derailed at the Trinity Industries facility outside Shell Rock on Tuesday, according to KWWL. The derailment happened during a slow-speed rail movement. Tuesday in high school volleyball Class 4A 6th ranked Waverly-Shell Rock beat AGWSR 2-0 and fell to Class 2A top-ranked Grundy Center 2-1. The Go-Hawks will be back in action Thursday at the Denver Triangular on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3.

The Waverly-Shell Rock girls and boys cross-country teams are hosting their annual early bird meet. The Go-Hawks will host Decorah and West Marshall at the Max Championship Course at 5:00.
