The Indianapolis Department of Public Works deployed at least 50 crew members to remove flood debris from the Ravenwood and River Park neighborhoods and the town of Rocky Ripple on Saturday.

Communities still recovering after being hit hard by recent flooding will be the targets of an all-day cleanup effort Saturday.

“When they say there are too many bad things that happen, this was a bad thing, but there’s an awful lot of good people,” said Rocky Ripple resident Jeanne Malone.

The flood reduction protect would protect 300 households and 74 acres of Butler University grounds.

It’s the kind of flooding event Indianapolis has not seen in over 30 years. The historic amount of rain has caused Indiana streams and rivers to flood and people to have to evacuate their homes. In northern Indianapolis, neighborhoods including Ravenswood and Rocky Ripple were warned to evacuate because of rising waters in the White River. On Saturday, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett provided an update on the extreme flooding. Severe storms rolled over the state beginning Tuesday afternoon.
